was born in Hamburg in 1925. He grew up under the inspiring tutelage of his father Reb Yosef Zvi who was one of the most important Rabbanim of his time, and who had close ties to Reb Chaim Oizer, the Chofetz Chaim and other Gedolim of the generation.

 

Reb Shlomo lost his parents and much of his family in the Holocaust. After suffering through, and surviving, forced labor in nine different concentration camps, he was determined to pursue his Torah education which had been interrupted by the horrors of the Holocaust.

 

He made his way to New York, where he was welcomed in Yeshivas Rabbeinu Chaim Berlin. He became one of the closest disciples of the great Rosh Yeshivah, Hagaon Harav Yitzchak Hutner zt"l. He developed into an outstanding talmid chacham and a premier educator. Hundreds of talmidim passed through his classrooms, and many of them became true bnei Torah and talmidei chachamim.

 

After many years he returned to Yeshiva Rabbeinu Chaim Berlin to serve as Mashgiach Ruchani. In the years that followed, he became known as a foremost baal machshavah and baal mussar. His shiurim were often packed, and the recordings were disseminated far and wide. He also gave shiurim to seminaries and educated hundreds. He began publishing his writings, and eventually produced a series of volumes on machshava, "Maskil LiShlomo."
